A small historical reference
Abakan is the capital of the Republic of Khakassia, located in the east of the republic, at the mouth of the Abakan River, which flows into the Yenisei. Founded in 1931. The first written mention is 1675. Previously, the name was Abakan stockade (until the 1780s), the village of Ust-Abakanskoye (until 1931). The city history begins with the Abakan prison, which they tried to build on the Pine Island at the mouth of the Abakan River in 1675. The history of the city is continued by the village of Ust-Abakanskoye, which in the 19th century became the center of the Kachin Steppe Duma - the Khakass self-government body. Since 1925, residential areas have been built between the village of the railway station Abakan and the village of Ust-Abakansky, which in 1931 were united into the city of Abakan.
